Private COVID Vaccines Now Available in Canterbury – Should You Get One This Winter?

COVID-19 hasn’t gone away. While we may not hear about it as much, it still poses a risk to our health, especially during the colder months when respiratory infections tend to spike.

This autumn and winter, private COVID-19 vaccinations are available at our Canterbury clinic. Whether you're not eligible for the free NHS jab this year or simply want to protect yourself and your loved ones, here’s what you need to know about getting a private COVID vaccine - and why it might be a good idea.

Why consider a private COVID vaccine?

Many people think the pandemic is behind us - but COVID-19 is still circulating, and new strains continue to emerge. The vaccine helps boost your immunity against current strains, reducing your chances of getting seriously unwell.

You might want to consider a private vaccine if:

  • You're not eligible for the NHS booster this year but still want protection

  • You work in a public-facing job or live with someone vulnerable

  • You're planning to travel or attend busy events

  • You want to reduce the risk of long COVID or disruption to work and life

What are the benefits of the COVID-19 booster?

Getting vaccinated helps to:

  • Reduce your risk of severe illness or hospitalisation

  • Protect others, especially elderly or vulnerable family members

  • Boost waning immunity from previous vaccinations or infections

  • Help you stay well over winter alongside flu and other seasonal bugs

While the vaccine won’t necessarily stop you catching COVID altogether, it makes your immune system much better prepared if you do.

Are there any risks?

The COVID-19 vaccines used in the UK have passed safety checks and continue to be monitored by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency). Most side effects are mild and short-lived, such as:

  • A sore arm

  • Tiredness or a mild fever

  • Muscle aches or headache

In rare cases, some people may have allergic reactions or more significant side effects. For this reason, the vaccine is not suitable for people with:

  • A severe allergy to any component (e.g. polyethylene glycol/PEG)

  • A history of serious reaction to a previous COVID vaccine

  • Those who are acutely unwell or have a fever on the day

If you're unsure, our team is happy to discuss your medical history and help you decide.

Who can’t get the vaccine through the NHS?

The NHS COVID booster programme has been scaled back. Many people under 75 or without certain health conditions may no longer be eligible for a free vaccine.

That doesn’t mean you can’t get vaccinated - it just means you may need to book privately. At All Health Matters, we offer private COVID-19 jabs in our Canterbury clinic, with appointments available now.

Common concerns we hear:

“I’ve already had COVID — do I still need a vaccine?”

Yes — natural immunity does offer some protection, but it can fade over time. The vaccine boosts your defences against current strains, which may be different from the one you caught.

“Is it worth it if I’m healthy and under 65?”

Even if you're generally healthy, COVID can still knock you out for days (or weeks), and in some cases cause longer-term symptoms. Many people choose to get vaccinated to stay well, protect loved ones, and avoid missing work or events.

“What if I had side effects last time?”

Mild side effects are common, but if you had a strong reaction before, it's best to speak to our team before booking. We’ll help you weigh up the risks and benefits.
