FAQ

I'm over 60, can I have a yellow fever vaccine?

For patients aged 60 and over, a doctor must review your details before the vaccine can be given.

Please book a Travel Health Consultation and complete the Travel Health Questionnaire (emailed after booking). Our Travel Health Nurses cannot administer the vaccine to over 60s without prior approval. Suitability will be confirmed at your appointment (we’ll only contact you beforehand if we need more information). If the doctor advises against vaccination, we may be able to issue a medical letter of exemption for travel requirements.

What if I’ve already had shingles?

You can still benefit from the vaccine to reduce the risk of future episodes. Speak to our team for personalised advice.

How long does the shingles vaccine last?

The shingles vaccine offers long-term protection, though the exact duration varies by individual.

Why should I get the shingles vaccine?

Shingles can cause severe pain and long-term complications. The vaccine reduces your risk of developing shingles and its associated symptoms.

Are there any side effects of the flu vaccine?

Most people experience mild side effects, such as soreness at the injection site or a low-grade fever, which resolve quickly.

When should I get the flu vaccine?

Flu vaccines are most effective when given in October or November, ahead of the peak flu season in December. However, if it is later than that, it is still worth having it as it will help protect you from around 14 days after vaccination.
