Men's Health: A GP's Call to Action

75% of men will put off going to the doctor when they have symptoms according to a survey by Gillette & Movember in 2018.

We're now 6 years on from that survey and, as a doctor who focuses on helping patients enjoy good health, wellness, and find healthy lifestyle measures that work for them, I'm thrilled to see a positive shift happening in men's health.

I have noticed that more and more men are taking charge of their health, scheduling check-ups and seeking advice – a trend I wholeheartedly celebrate!

As a Mum to a teenage son myself, I understand the importance of accessible healthcare for men. Early intervention and open communication about health concerns are crucial for long-term wellbeing.

Prevention is Key for Men's Health

Regular check-ups allow us to identify potential health issues early on, when they're often easier to manage.  This proactive approach can make a world of difference to your future health.  But let's face it, life can be hectic.  Between work, family, and other commitments, carving out time for appointments can feel like a luxury. Remember though, that your health is a priority, and proactively looking after it can save you an even bigger headache later on.

Making Wellness Achievable

I'm dedicated to working with my patients to make both preventative care and healthy living habits as convenient and achievable as possible.  This means offering flexible appointment scheduling, clear communication, and a judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable talking about any concerns you might have. If you can't find an appointment slot on our website that works for you, drop us a message with your availability and we'll work to find a time that fits around your schedule.

No Embarrassment Here

Let's be honest, men sometimes face unique barriers when it comes to healthcare.  There might be a fear of embarrassment, a feeling that "toughing it out" is the manly thing to do. But here's the truth: prioritising your health is the strongest thing you can do for yourself, your family, and those who depend on you.

Together, We Can Thrive

Remember, you're not alone in this journey.  As your doctor, I'm here to partner with you in achieving your health and wellness goals.  Let's break down those barriers and create a culture where men feel empowered to take charge of their health. Together, we can build a foundation for a long, healthy, and fulfilling life.
