Earwax Removal / Ear Irrigation

To do:

Please complete our ear irrigation pre-screening form once you have booked your appointment to help us make sure this service is appropriate for you and save you a wasted trip.

To reduce the risk of damage to the ear, it is advised that you use eardrops* to soften the wax and aid removal 3-5 days before your appointment. The following products are recommended:

  • Olive oil ear drops

  • Almond ear drops (not suitable for those with nut allergy)

  • Sodium bicarbonate 5% eardrops

  • Earol drops

* It is not recommended to administer drops if you suspect a perforated eardrum, active dermatitis, or infection of the ear canal.

Ear irrigation information

Ear irrigation is the process of removing excess ear wax using a flow of warm water to flush out the ear. It should only be performed by a trained professional and only when necessary.

In the majority of cases ear wax does not need to be removed.

At All Health Matters we can offer ear irrigation in the following circumstances:

  • When earwax is contributing to hearing loss

  • When the client is experiencing ongoing itchiness

  • When the client has blocked ears

  • When the client has a feeling of fullness in the ear

  • When the client is experiencing Vertigo (with assessment)

  • When the tympanic membrane is obscured by wax

Please note: This service is only available to over 18s.
