Get to know us.... David Monk, Occupational Health Technician

Dave has been with us since 2015 and is one of our most experienced OH Technicians. He is also our resident technology expert and played an integral part in our move to new OH software in 2017. Before Chris came along to help us all out, Dave would often be found fixing equipment, doing the heavy lifting, and getting his drill out, alongside his usual job carrying out health surveillance medicals. He's a very capable and can-do chap who takes his work seriously and loves to learn new things.

What did you do before you joined AHM? I worked as a barista in ‘Grind n’ Bake’, an independent coffee shop in Folkestone town centre. What does a typical day look like for you? A typical day would have me ploughing through hearing tests and questionnaires on the night shift at Tilmanstone Salads, I rarely work anywhere else. What's your favourite thing about your job? Getting to work with my gorgeous wife.

What's your fondest AHM related memory? Driving the van to North Wales to do a few medicals and staying overnight at a gorgeous BnB in the countryside. Absolute bliss. Which of the AHM values (communication, respect, integrity, inspiration, collaboration) is most important to you personally and why? Respect. One must have respect for the rules and procedures. Without the proper respect, things get missed, paperwork gets lost. One must also have respect for each other. If you properly respect others then you will do your best to make sure you do things correctly to make others lives easier, such as making sure all information is added to Orchid so reports are easy to do. Can you tell us about one of your hobbies or interests outside of work? I recently got a new hobby in electronics and managed to bring life back into a busted graphics card. Since then my main hobby has been playing PC games :D And, lastly, can you give us a quote that you would pin on your wall (it can be your own motto or a quote you’ve come across…)? “If you understand what you're doing, you're not learning anything.” – Abe Lincoln
